About

Why I do this work

I'm a family law attorney, certified divorce coach, and court-approved mediator. I help individuals and families navigate divorce and co-parenting transitions with less conflict and more clarity.

After working at a traditional family law firm for nearly a decade, I quickly learned there were two types of attorneys: the "bulldogs" who thrived on conflict, and the "problem solvers" who focused on finding solutions. I knew without question that I was meant to be a problem solver. But more than that, I saw firsthand how much families lose—emotionally, financially, and relationally—by going to court.

So I launched Divorce by Allison, LLC to offer a better path. My practice is rooted in the belief that most families are better served by resolving disputes outside of court when they have access to the right tools, guidance, and support. I wanted to create an entirely different type of practice—one built on straightforward, transparent flat-fee pricing and innovative approaches that put families first.

A Uniquely Integrated Approach

I bring extensive training and certifications to this work. As a CDC Certified Divorce Coach® and DCA Certified Pre-Mediation Coach®, I have specialized training in family dynamics, communication, and conflict resolution. I've completed advanced training in child-focused custody mediation, family financial mediation, juvenile court mediation, and anger management education. I'm a court-approved mediator in multiple jurisdictions, and my background as a litigation attorney ensures that my clients' agreements are both emotionally sustainable and legally sound.

I've also created and taught co-parenting workshops for the Howard County Office of Children and Families, and regularly volunteer leading conflict resolution seminars and divorce navigation courses designed to equip clients with the skills they need to move forward.

How I Work

I work with clients at every stage of the divorce or separation process—from planning and preparation prior to divorce, to navigating the process during, to providing co-parenting support post-divorce. Whether drafting parenting plans or helping clients build new communication strategies, I empower clients to move forward with dignity and intention.

As a divorce mediator, I work with couples to create clear, customized divorce agreements and parenting plans.

As a divorce coach, I provide one-on-one support to clients considering or preparing for divorce, navigating mediation, or dealing with co-parenting challenges.

As a consulting attorney, I help clients understand their legal options, draft proposals, and reach uncontested divorce settlements—without unnecessary escalation.

A Different Way of Pricing

You have enough on your plate when going through a divorce without worrying about mounting legal bills.  "How much will this cost?" is one of the first questions most clients would ask, and with hourly rates, it's impossible to give a real answer.  I understand the stress of unpredictable legal fees and unclear pricing, and that's why I do things differently.  I've committed to building a practice around flat-fee pricing.     I offer clear flat-fee options where I lay out exactly what we'll each do, the outcome we'll achieve, and the cost upfront—so you can decide what path feels right for your family.  We eliminate the concern of churning fees and surprise bills so you get transparency, certainty and control.  Then you can focus on what matters most without watching the clock or overthinking whether to send that quick email.

Who I Help

Every family is different, and so is every separation. I work with people who are seeking a thoughtful, cooperative, and informed way to navigate major life changes, especially those who want to prioritize their children's well-being and long-term peace of mind. Here are some of the common situations where I can provide guidance and support:

Parents creating or revising parenting plans who want help understanding what needs to be included, how to put arrangements into words, and how to create a plan that truly works for your family.

People considering separation but feeling overwhelmed or unsure about what it would mean for their home, finances, parenting, or daily life. You don't need all the answers right away—you just need space to explore the questions.

Parents who mostly agree on co-parenting or property division but want help finalizing details, avoiding blind spots, and documenting decisions in a thorough, legally sound way.

Couples with complex decisions—including shared businesses, special parenting arrangements, or non-traditional assets—who want to stay in control of the outcome rather than let a judge decide.

People considering or going through mediation who want legal guidance and support before, during, or after the process. This includes help understanding your options, thinking through proposals and counter-offers, preparing for difficult conversations, managing emotional triggers, developing negotiation strategy, and reviewing agreements before signing.

Couples preparing for marriage who want to create a prenup that reflects mutual respect, clarity, and personal values—not just default legal templates.

Individuals seeking neutral, judgment-free guidance when you need someone to help you think things through and weigh your options without pushing a particular path.

People struggling to communicate with a spouse or co-parent who want help crafting a workable approach to negotiation or day-to-day co-parenting.

Clients who want extra support—both logistical and emotional—and someone to walk with them step by step, offering clear direction and reassurance during a difficult time.

Business owners navigating divorce or separation who want to protect the health and continuity of their business during the process.

People who didn't choose divorce and are now overwhelmed by the unknown, worried about the emotional turmoil and financial strain that divorce could cause their family.

Anyone seeking a peaceful, amicable resolution—whether you call it an "amicable divorce," "conscious uncoupling," or simply a commitment to reduce harm and focus on growth.

My Commitment

I believe that most families are capable of reaching peaceful, durable agreements when they have the right guidance and support. That's what I offer through my practice: a steady hand during uncertain times and practical tools to help you protect what matters most.

No matter how we work together, my goal is the same—to help you feel informed, supported, and capable of building a peaceful path forward for your family. If you're looking for a divorce professional who prioritizes resolution over conflict, I invite you to reach out. Let's work together to make this transition smoother for you and your family.
